Mike you have done a great job editing what we have so far. Have you had time for anything new this week? I like the angle changes you have made. I am free tomorrow afternoon (have a workshop all morning and early afternoon) and Sunday. We can meet for new screen shots in SL--photo or movie. Martin are you still going to the web conference Saturday am at 11? I would love to hear what comes up! Monica: The web conference on saturday for me turned out to be a no-no. Internet connection started acting up at home after a normal (not even heavy) rain. I stall had the last chance offered by the scheduled Sunday conference, but thta one turned out to be only a brief message from Dr. A saying she was going to answer questions from her e-mail. I saw Lupe and others logged but no inreaction. My comments were posted on the chat to all. I felt I missed a good opportunity for a live conference. I listened to another one that was recorded and was very informative. Thanks for your e-mails Monica! I hope to be on your next class.

I guess that after we saw this link from other PSA, it came evident that our production of not one, but two PSA's is a good team effort! I noticed on the rubrics for our different turn ins this week that they mention posting on our blog/wiki a web clip movie...is that right or was that what was cut for the podcasting? I am off to part one of my workshop--will try to check in if possible. MONICA!
(Mike) I tried to send the group the movie file to work with. It is currently about 40MB just for the movie, and the combination of files in my working folder is several gigabytes. I think we are close to done, I know we have to de-brief this week, and write blogs about what we have learned on this project, as well as post the PSA on our own site and turn in the final assignment sheet. I think we will do fine on the project, I may be able to add in some other changes, or possibly figure out a way to send you a MOV file for any of y'all to download and make edits. For me this was a very fun project. It went a totally different way than when we first started. When we first started working I liked our original concept, but wanted more than just a video that was still shots in a Ken Burns style. The original plan started getting complicated when I realized it was going to get hard for me to get to a downtown area, or someplace to shoot a club scene. Once the rap was introduced my head started coming up with lots of ideas. Maybe I took over too much, but I really liked doing the second life animated characters and placing them into a real world environment. In the end I think the video turned out good and I hope everyone was pleased with it. It pushed me to use some of my tools (iMovie, Adobe After Effects) in more depth and try new things with them. I also had the oppertunity to work with Camtasia, a screen capture software that I had not worked with in the past. I learned a lot about Public Service Announcements, and look forward to teaching that during the next six weeks of my video production course. It takes a lot of scheduling to get everybody working together on projects where everyone is in different locations. In addition I learned that for much of the time we could mostly focus on 1 or two days of the week in which anybody was actually working on the assignment due to other obligations we had. This was truly a team effor on every memeber of our team. As a team, we parted from the original idea, as we felt that the script had some challenging shots. An example comes to mind about the shot of a young child being videotaped while rambling on a night club. We started a more intense collaboration process -exchanging e-mails- to come up with a second concept that would make the mark and had the required rigor and relevance. Rd Ziegler (being the music lover he is) came up with a rap tune used a s back bone for our PSA. He admitted had very little closeness to rap. Nevertheless the tune was catchy and systemic. We then focused on an animation option using Second Life Avatars, where Mike showed his skills, Monica her creativity. I made a proposal to develo a back-up mock-up using some photos I earlier had uploaded onto our wiki to be used as reference for shots. I got my hand at trying my own voice over using Windows Sound Recording, and making a decent edit on Audacity. The animation effects were subscribed to the use of Photo Story 3 for Windows. It was evident to me that digital video environments are more frindly to MAC users (which I am yet to become comfortable with) I had seen this technique on commercials, where directors send PAs to scout locations and take litterally tousands of pictures. This process makes the director's job a little easier in trying to convey visual ideas to actors, prop managers, casting, extras and crew. It came evident that our project had time constrains and we then decided to make just a quick back-up using Hayley's initial script, my photos and a simple animation process. My personal experience was closely depicted by Randy Nelson in one of our video resource material for this class. Thanks everyone! I had a great time making not one, but two PSAs.
From MonicaI hope you all can get on tonight. I would love to chat a little before our last few moments. I really like what Mike added with the font at the beginning. I have been wanting to edit a bit because it is hard to figure out how to share some of my ideas. That is one area that I would like to improve more--find the media that helps us talk even more effectively. I just had a DUH moment tonight! I realized I could have been downloading the youtube clips from the beginning and editing that way! So I used mediaconverter.org to download the youtube and I am going to add a few more words to the sections that still seem "slow." I don't want to mess up the audio by clip and inserting anything... I will work on it right now and upload for you all to see. If that works smoothly..and if you are willing Mike...I would like to do a few more edits. I need to find away to save the audio -as is- and add it back on unclipped...any ideas? Audacity won't take it back over.. maybe if I use format factory to convert the audio and hold it then I could paste it back onto the movie. I will try and let you all know what I figure out. Mike did some neat things...I still really want to learn how the green screen stuff works!
Here are the changes I have made. They are easy to take off or change--if necessary.

Mike the PSA looks great and you did an excellent job. I use second life in my social studies classroom and it really engages the students.

I enjoyed working with you all! This is my first group project(besides our other pair things for this class). I love our final product and think that it is obvious that some hard work went into it! I appreciate the creativity that went into each persons contribution. I think that if I were to improve anything it would be to have us face chat or real time chat at least once. I would like to have a chance to "get-to-know" you each a little better. Also, I think it would have been a nice way to communicate. I also would have worked on our audio some more--adding the second voice did make it harder to hear...maybe we should have had them sing different verses? That's totally nit-picking, by the way! I enjoyed using the title effects from Movie Maker, experimenting with Audacity and Camstasia and I enjoyed my time trying to learn more about SecondLife. I found some really cool education places and I am wondering how I can use it more in the future(I am in an elementary school).

Hayley Debrief:
I first want to say that I really enjoyed working with you all. The final project is fantastic. I am so impressed with how quickly this came together, especially with all of us so far apart geographically. It was a real nod to technology (and the talent that was able to utilize it) that such a well-developed project evolved allowing everyone to show their strengths. I agree with Monica, it would have been nice to get to know the group members better, rather that just the text communication. As a Communications teacher, I miss out on the face-to-face interaction, but was very pleased with the seamless communication that the Wiki and our emails provided us. I have worked in Audacity previously and have always enjoyed the ease of use it offers. I have more fully realized with this project how useful the Wiki is, having fully embraced what it has to offer, and I am now using a Wiki to help plan a family party!
